An explosion shook a suburban office building Friday afternoon.

A 911 caller reported the blast at BM Craft, Inc. on West Colfax in Palatine. Smoke was coming out of the building when firefighters arrived, the Palatine Fire Department said.

Firefighters said they had to force their way through a locked front door. Once inside, they used a thermal imaging camera to see through the thick smoke.

The fire was out fewer than 10 minutes later, they said.

Emergency crews found nobody inside the building, and there were no injuries.  The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

Damage from the blast is estimated at $20,000.
