Ex-Bradley Basketball Star Robbed in South Loop

Adebayo Akinkunle told police he was attacked and robbed of a Range Rover and more than $100,000 in cash

A former Bradley University basketball forward was found beaten and robbed Monday in his South Loop home, police said.

Adebayo Akinkunle, 37, told police he was attacked and robbed of a Range Rover, more than $100,000 in cash, his credit cards and cell phones, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police responded to the 700 block of South Financial Place around 3 p.m. after calls of a person shot. Akinkunle checked into Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose and lacerations to both his head and left wrist, the Tribune reports.

The unknown attackers fled in Akinkunle's Range Rover, police said. The number of attackers remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. Though no one was shot, a shell casing was recovered from the scene, according to the Tribune.

Akinkunle, a native of Morgan Park, went undrafted in the NBA in 1998 but played overseas and was inducted into Bradley’s athletics hall of fame in ’09.
