Chicago Hotels Among World's Best

Two better than New York City

Thinking of going on vacation? It turns out you may not have to go far. Some of the world's best hotels are right here in Chicago.

Travel + Leisure Magazine announced its 2010 World's Best Awards, grading everything from airlines to islands.

Four Chicago hotels were ranked among the top ten large-city hotels (with 100 rooms or more) in U.S. and Canada and were also placed among the top 100 hotels in the world.

Trump International Hotel & Tower is considered the best large-city hotel in the U.S. and Canada. When it opened o two years ago, it ranked 20th.

Mr. Trump's hair must be beaming with pride.

The second-best large-city hotel is The Peninsula (108 E Superior St), moving all the way up from 9th last year. It is also considered the 48th best hotel in the world.

On the World's Best list, both Trump and The Peninsula beat out the Ritz-Carlton New York, which only came in 80th.

What's all this nonsense about "Second" City?

The other two high-ranking hotels were the Sutton Place Hotel and the Four Seasons Hotel, within mere blocks of each other on the Near North Side.

So don't fiddle with all those airfares and baggage fees; just take a CTA trip downtown and be a tourist at home.
