The 2012 Olympic journey for Chicago windsurfer Bob Willis ended Sunday.

The only U.S. windsurfer not from California or Florida finished 11th and 30th in the final two races of the 10-race RS:X series, finishing 22nd overall in the Olympic Sailing Regatta, according to the U.S. Sailing Team.

"The first day I had two top-10 finishes,” Willis told U.S. Sailing. “Second day was a strong day. I had an 11-25 and sitting in 13th, a really good position. The third day, where I could have made some serious gains on the fleet, I had a black flag and a 30th, and that really set me back."

Willis, 25, said he had a tough time recovering from the day's setbacks but said Sunday he's "really happy to end on a good note.”

On Facebook, Willis posted thank you's to his coach, Peter Wells, as well as family, friends and supporters.

"Wow! What a ride!" he wrote. "Finished my first Olympic Games in 22nd/38. Overall, really happy with how the event went and how prepared for it...I would not have done anything different."

The Top 10 finishers in the 10-race event advanced to the Aug. 7 medal round in Weymouth and Portland, according to U.S. Sailing.
