Chicago Area Receives $29 Million in Flood Aid

The Chicago area received some federal help Tuesday for areas still recovering from spring flooding.

The U.S. Housing and Urban Development agency announced $28.8 million in grants to Chicago, Cook County, DuPage County, and the State of Illinois to help areas recover from the spring storms that caused widespread flooding in April.

Grant money allocation:

  • Chicago: $4.3 million
  • Cook County: $13.9 million
  • DuPage County: $7 million
  • Illinois: $3.6 million

Gov. Pat Quinn declared a state of emergency in April as the floods devastated portions of the state.

It was the wettest April on record in Chicago.
