CTA, Metra, South Shore Trains Heighten Security in Wake of Paris Attacks

If you take the train or bus, you may see extra security Monday in wake of the attacks in Paris.

Transit officials told NBC Chicago the heightened security have been put in place only has a precaution, reminding residents there is no credible safety threat to the U.S. or city of Chicago.

Stepped-up security is expected on all Metra, CTA and South Shore trains traveling downtown from Indiana.

The chief of police of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, told NBC Chicago additional police officers will be on platforms, specifically at the East Chicago and Dune Stations beginning early Monday morning.

Metra and the Chicago Transit Authority have not revealed detailed plans for their amped up measures, but are listed as transit agencies that are also increasing their police presence this week.

Train commuters have also been asked to do their part. Officials have reminded riders to always be alert and to report any suspicious activity.

The beefed-up security is also expected at city landmarks and federal buildings, not just in Chicago, but all over the country.
