Police are investigating the death of a man found inside the trunk of a burned-out car in Gary, Ind., Monday morning.

Officers patrolling the 2700 block of Maryland Street discovered the vehicle with the legs sticking out of the trunk, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.

Gary police say it's too early to what led to the man's death, but the medical examiner says it appears to be a homicide, the city's 48th of the year, compared to 43 all of last year.

Investigators are looking into whether the death is related to the nearby stabbing deaths of a husband and wife inside a residents in the 2500 block of Delaware Street.
