Best Buy Closing 6 Chicagoland Stores

Four will close on May 12 and two will close later this summer.

Best Buy announced plans on Saturday to close six stores in Chicagoland as part of a transformation strategy that involves closing 50 stores nationwide.

"This was not an easy decision to make," the company stated in a release. "We chose these stores carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they have made to our business."

Stores at 87th & Dan Ryan, Matteson, Mundelein, and West Dundee locations will close Saturday, reopen on Sunday for final sales, and close permanently on May 12, according to Best Buy Spokeswoman Kelly  Groehler.

She adds that the other two stores in Addison and Deerfield will remain open and close later this summer. No information about when final sales begin for those locations was available at this time.

According to the release, all employees of these six stores have been notified and Best Buy is working to help them find other positions within the company.
