Animal Control Cites Owner After Horse Found Dead in Cold Weather

The owner of a horse that was found dead in the snow Wednesday in the western suburbs was cited by the Kane County Animal Control.

Animal control personnel say a deceased horse was found at a property in the Village of Maple Park Wednesday morning, but officials did not give a specific location.

Ten other horses were found outside on the property, according to a release from the Kane County Animal Control.

The owner of the property was notified of an investigation and provided shelter for the remaining horses, officials said. The owner was cited for failure to provide sufficient quantity of wholesome food, water, adequate shelter and protection from the weather.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Kane County Sheriff’s office were notified of the investigation.

While officials did not give an address of where the deceased horse was found, a Facebook video was later posted of a dead horse in Maple Park. The video has since received more than 170,000 views and more than 3,500 shares.
