7-Year-Old Killed, 4 Injured in Kankakee House Fire

A 7-year-old girl is dead and 4 others are injured after a fatal fire tore through a home in Kankakee, according to the Kankakee Fire Department Chief Ronald Young.

Firefighters responded to a call shortly after 8:30 a.m. to a home on the 100 block of N. Washington Ave. in Kankakee. 

Upon arriving, firefighters found fire on the first and second floor of the home and reports of trapped victims. 

A 25-year-old victim was flown to Loyola burn unit in stable condition, while a 22-year-old man, an 8-year-old girl, and another female of unknown age were taken to St. Mary's Hospital, treated and released.

Several firefighters called a mayday during the fire, but none were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the fire chief stated that it may be accidental.
