5 Hurt in LSD Pileup

Five people were seriously injured in a multiple vehicle crash on North Lake Shore Drive early Sunday.

Around 2 a.m., police and paramedics responded to a multiple-vehicle crash on Lake Shore Drive at Belmont, according to police News Affairs. The crash prompted an EMS Plan 1 response, sending five ambulances to the scene.

According to unconfirmed dispatch reports, the crash was an eight-car pileup.

Five people were injured in the crash. One person was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, two were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and two people were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center -- all in serious to critical condition, Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight.

The southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive were closed near Belmont while police investigated the crash. The lanes were re-opened early Sunday morning.
