Car Crashes After Cops Try to Pull it Over on West Side; 6 Sent to Hospital

A three-car crash on Chicago’s West Side sent six people to the hospital Tuesday—including two children—after police attempted to perform a traffic stop, authorities said.

The crash occurred in the 3400 block of West Congress Parkway about 8:45 p.m. in the city’s Fifth City neighborhood.

"...officers attempted to curb silver in color sedan for a minor traffic violation when the vehicle lost control and crashed into a dark colored truck," police said. "Occupants inside the offending vehicle then attempted to flee at which time officers gave chase."

Multiple ambulances were sent to the area where three adults were in critical condition, one was in serious but stable condition and two children were in good condition.

Police said three people were in custody with minor injuries. It was unclear if the trio in custody were among the six injured in the crash or in addition to those sent to the hospital.

Area Central Detectives were investigating, police said.
