$250 Bond for Man Charges With Beating Woman in Northwest Suburb

He is accused of “severely beating” a woman late Tuesday inside a car in a parking lot in unincorporated Palatine

Bond was set at $250,000 on Saturday for a northwest suburban man who was the focus of a manhunt after he allegedly beat a woman inside a car Thursday.

An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for 34-year-old Joseph L. Lopez of Mount Prospect, and Cook County Sheriff’s police said he was taken into custody without incident about 10 a.m. Friday in the 1400 block of Brownstone Court in Mount Prospect.

He is accused of “severely beating” a woman late Tuesday inside a car in a parking lot in unincorporated Palatine. He was considered “armed and dangerous” after threatening to shoot police officers who came in contact with him, and to kill himself, an earlier statement from police said.

On Friday, Lopez was charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery, a statement from the sheriff’s office said. At a bond hearing Saturday morning at the Cook County courthouse at 26th and California, his bail was set at $250,000.
