2 Dead, At Least 5 Wounded Within 3 Hours Early Saturday

The shootings began about 4 a.m.

Two people were killed and at least five others wounded in gun violence across the city in the span of about three hours early Saturday.

About 4 a.m. on Saturday, a man believed to be between 18 and 20 years old was shot dead in the Englewood neighborhood. The shooting occurred in the 5600 block of South Shields Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

He was shot multiple times and was dead at the scene, Alfaro said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death of the unidentified man believed to be between 18 to 20 years old.

About 5:40 a.m., a male whose age was unknown was killed in a shooting in the South Deering neighborhood, police said.

The shooting happened in the 9700 block of South Exchange Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

The victim was fatally shot in the chest, Kubiak said. Further details about the shooting were not yet known Saturday morning.

The non-fatal shootings included:

A man shot in the neck on the Near West Side about 3:25 a.m. The shooting occurred in the 1300 block of South Loomis Street, Alfaro said. The man, in his 20s, was hospitalized at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

A man critically wounded during a shooting in the West Side North Lawndale neighborhood.

The shooting occurred at 3:05 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Kedzie Avenue, Alfaro said. The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.

A female was shot Saturday morning in the Northwest Side Belmont Cragin neighborhood, just five blocks from an earlier shooting.

She was shot in the 5400 block of West Diversey Avenue at 5:57 a.m. and taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, Kubiak said. Her age and condition were not yet known.

Less than two hours earlier, a man sitting in a vehicle was shot and critically wounded five blocks away, in the 4900 block of West Diversey Avenue, police said. That shooting occurred at 4:13 a.m., Alfaro said.

The man, whose age was not immediately available, was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.

A male shooting victim walked into Stroger Hospital after being shot on the Lower West Side early Saturday. The shooting occurred at 4:25 a.m. in the 1800 block of West 23rd Street, Alfaro said. The male, whose age was not immediately known, walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.
