Heather Locklear was released from the hospital Friday evening after being hospitalized for an emergency medical situation, said a hospital spokeswoman Friday.

The former Melrose Place star was hospitalized in serious condition Thursday afternoon. Locklear was in stable condition and recovering in the ICU by Friday afternoon.

"She is alert, talkative, resting. She is getting better, not worse," said Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center spokeswoman Kris Carraway-Bowman in a statement.

Carraway-Bowman would not comment on reports the incident possibly involved drugs and alcohol, but she did say this "was not a suicide attempt."

Her move to intensive care Friday followed "typical protocol," said Carraway-Bowman.

The actress' parents stayed at the hospital overnight. It is unclear what caused the emergency.
