Doctor: Bret Michaels "Has an Unbelievable Fight in Him"

A statement released Friday evening reveals that Bret Michaels is currently receiving treatment following his massive brain hemorrhage at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ.

The Poison frontman's location had not been revealed previously "due to the severity of his life threatening condition, the instantaneous way in which the hemorrhage presented itself and respect for his family," according to the statement.

Today's update, along with encouraging words from the reality star's doctor, suggest that Michaels may be on the road to recovery.

"Bret's sheer will to live and fully recover is undeniable," Joseph Zambramski, the doctor who has been treating Michaels, said in the statement. "He has an unbelievable fight in him."

The doctor continued, "It was a combination of Bret’s fight to stay conscious during the hemorrhage and get to the emergency room, and the immediate medical attention provided by our staff at Barrow that enabled us to stabilize his condition."

Michaels, who recently underwent emergency surgery to remove his appendix, suffered an "excruciating headache" on April 22 and was rushed to a hospital where it was discovered he was bleeding at the base of his brain, his publicist, Joann Mignano, confirmed to People last week.

Michaels, 47, had to cancel tour dates after undergoing appendectomy surgery on April 12 in Texas.

The "Rock of Love" reality star who has been competing on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” this season, seemed to be recovering well from the surgery at a rehab facility that specializes in diabetics.

Neurologists and neurosurgeons from the hospital will release additional information at press conference planned for 12 p.m. Tuesday.
