The Buzz: Mike McElroy identifies jobs, fiscal responsibility and education among his campaign priorities. McElroy opposes tax increases and contends Illinois has budget problems not because it has too little money, but because it spends too much.
He supports concealed-carry legislation and is pro-life. McElroy says education will be a top priority of his if elected. He also supports "allowing parents some freedom to choose where they send their children to school."
He currently serves as mayor of Decatur, a position he has held since 2009. He previously served on Decatur's city council for six years.
