The great Albert Einstein once said the insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." We may soon have compiled enough evidence to prove once and for all that Hollywood is bats*** crazy.

Kevin Feige, the capo di tutti cappi at Marvel Studios who bus-chucked Ed Norton earlier this week, has let it be known that "Thor" and "Captain America" will be converted into 3D.

"In being able to think in 3-D from the start -- and having every bit of our special effects rendered in true 3-D -- we have the opportunity to do it right," Feige told the LA Times' Hero Complex (by way of The Playlist, who also spotted the dopey new pick of Anthony Hopkins as Odin in "Thor"). "When you're working with a director like Ken Branagh or Joe Johnston, they're not going to settle for less than perfect image. They're not going to settle for something that isn't up to the artistry of everything else they've done on the film ... they're not going to put on some overlay in the last 10 to 12 weeks of post-production for a fiscal reason."

If you had the misfortune of seeing "Clash of the Titans" in all its 3D-conversion glory, than you know that the film looked a hundred times better in the ads on TV. The conversion process made it look like "a pop-up book," as Manohla Dargis of the New York Times so aptly noted.

There's a reason the trailers for "Resident Evil: Afterlife" tout the film having been "FILMED WITH THE JAMES CAMERON / VINCENT PACE FUSION CAMERA SYSTEM." Because as it stands now, conversion technology is bunk.

Now maybe there have been huge leaps forward since the "Clash" hit the fan, but wouldn't it be smart to test it with audiences by way of a short or maybe one of those low-budget movies starring secondary characters that Marvel is promising?
