The first footage from "Moneyball," Bennett Miller's adaptation of Michael Lewis' book, starring Brad Pitt was teased on ET. It ain't much, but it's something...

Lewis' book follows Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane as he put together a team that in 2003 made the playoffs with a payroll about one-third that of the New York Yankees.

The footage shows glimpses of Pitt as Beane; Jonah Hill as Beane's #2, Peter Brand (based on Paul DePodesta); Phillip Seymour Hoffman as A's manager Art Howe; and Chris Pratt as first baseman Scott Hatteberg.

Looks pretty good, and it's got a great cast, but we still have some doubts as to how people other than hardcore baseball nerds (guilty) will respond to the drama of watching a man build a baseball team.

But just as Lewis book "The Blind Side," wasn't really about football, "Moneyball" isn't really about baseball. It's about a man with limited resources getting ahead by finding inefficiencies in the marketplace--for baseball players.

"Moneyball" opens Spet. 23.
