NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 23: (AFP-OUT) Former U.S. President Bill Clinton speaks during the closing plenary session of the annual Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) on September 23, 2010 in New York City. President Obama was speaking to introduce First Lady Michelle Obama. The sixth annual meeting of the CGI gathers prominent individuals in politics, business, science, academics, religion and entertainment to discuss global issues such as climate change and the reconstruction of Haiti. The event, founded by Clinton after he left office, is held the same week as the General Assembly at the United Nations, when most world leaders are in New York City. Just this week we posted about unemployment and the problems Chicago has with keeping and creating new jobs in the startup world. Funnily enough, Bill Clinton seems to have heard about our problems and so he's announced the first Clinton Global Initiative meeting focused specifically on fixing these very problems. It's to take place June 29 and 30 at the Sheraton, and while participation in CGI is by invitation only -- you can e-mail them a request -- we're guessing if you've got some savvy ideas on how to fix these problems it'll be your ticket in. After all: There's an entire portion of this meeting devoted to discussing startups, so it's worth a shot.
