$1 Deals Launch GrouponNow

The power of a buck ain't what it used to be. But today in Chicago, it's worth a whole lot more.

For one day only, Andrew Mason's Chicago-based Groupon celebrates the launch of GrouponNow with hundreds of Windy City deals for $1.

Search by zip code among several categories, including "eat something," "have fun," "get pampered" and "go out" to see deals of the day.

The difference between Groupon and GrouponNow?

The latter deals must be used the same day they're purchased. Which means Friday's $1 deal for $20 at Kate Boggiano is only good until the women's boutique closes its doors at 6 p.m. (Read "the fine print" on each deal for hours and rules.)

"Groupon Now! is a new way to find great local deals that you can buy and use right now," the deals site said Thursday on its blog.

In honor of the launch, Groupon is dispatching street teams and live-blogging all day. The company plans to expand to more cities and mobile apps.
