Brandon Marshall Says He's Still Recovering from Hip Surgery

Brandon Marshall was targeted on each of the five balls that Jay Cutler threw in preseason week two and caught four of them.

In Week three he didn't catch a single pass.

What's going on with the Pro Bowl wide out?

Marshall said Tuesday he isn't where he wants to be after he had a third surgery on his hip this spring.

"You may be rushed a little bit," Marshall said of his conditioning. "Some people think I need to be farther on than where I am."

Marshall admitted being frustrated.

He rewrote the Bears record books in 2012 with single season records in receptions and receving yards with a career high eleven touchdown catches. Bears head coach Marc Trestman says the four time Pro Bowler puts pressure on himself to perform at that elite level. Quarterback Jay Cutler sees it in practice.

"It's just a matter of him getting out there and pushing his hip through things" Cutler said, adding that he's seen Marshall get tired.

"I think once we get into a routine and a game week and shorten some of these reps, hopefully he'll be able to make it through," he said.

Cutler said the Bears are still figuing out exactly in what routes they want Marshall.

With Matt Forte catching passes in the backfield, the emergence of second year receiver Alshon Jeffery and the addition of tight end Martellus Bennett, Marshall agrees he doesn't yet know his role in Marc Trestman's offense.

"I'm still trying to figure my role and my place in this offense," Marshall admitted.

Trestman said there will be enough passes thrown No. 15's way.

There is room for an elite receiver who has over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last six years.

"If he plays every week Brandon's going to have a lot of catches" Trestman assured, "and certainly be instrumental in the success of our offense."
