Does Chicago Traffic Seem Bad Lately? What to Expect This Weekend

If you thought Chicago's traffic was bad this week you probably weren't alone, but things will likely only get worse from here this weekend.

With two major events leading to street closures or massive crowds of people trekking into the city, it's likely drivers will see plenty of congestion.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is set to take place Sunday, but street closures kicked off already this week and are expected to ramp up for race day.

Thursday also marked the start of the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo, which brought thousands of runners into the city for their pre-race festivities and continues through the weekend.

The expo runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 7-8 at the McCormick Place, which is located at 2301 S. Martin Luther King Dr.

Another event bringing crowds to Chicago is Harry Styles' residency. While the pop icon's six shows were expected to begin Thursday, an abrupt cancellation means the first performance will instead take place this weekend.

Styles' "Love on Tour" is set to bring performances from Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 13-15 to the United Center.

There are also plenty of other events happening around Chicago this weekend, like the World Music Festival in the city and a "Stranger Things" fan convention in Schaumburg, bringing stars of the show to the Chicago area.

There will also be some roadwork planned in the area with Interstate 57 down to one lane from 12th Street to Halsted Street and I-80 in Joliet getting resurfacing work done.
