Tonight: Sip and Sculpt

Plus, gallery walk and Columbia's Manifest

SIP AND SCULPT: Head to the Hyde Park Art Center for a little wine and a lot of clay. Join in on 45-minute group sessions throughout the night led by a teaching artist, and transform a chunk of clay into a masterpiece. If art is not your thing, groove to the DJ or explore the exhibitions and galleries. 5020 S. Cornell Ave., 8 p.m.-12 a.m., $12

SECOND FRIDAYS: The Chicago Arts District hosts "2nd FRIDAYS Gallery Night", the monthly opening receptions at the galleries and artists' studios centered around South Halsted and 18th Streets in Chicago. 30 creative spaces in the area will showcase talent. 6-10 p.m., 1821 S. Halsted, FREE

START YOUR ENGINES: Put the peddle to the metal at Columbia College's first-ever Art Car Derby. In celebration of the annual Manifest bash, art students are duking it out against their faculty and staff by racing a 48 foot long track for bragging rights and a coveted Wideroe Cup. The event, which was originally devised as a way to hone in on the crafting skills of Art + Design students, just might just turn into a blood bath. On the corner of Balbo and Wabash Ave., 2:30-5pm
