Lauren Petty

You can catch Lauren Petty reporting on NBC 5 News Today from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Petty grew up in Burr Ridge and went to Lyons Township High School. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
 
Before coming to WMAQ, Petty was the weekend anchor and a reporter for WVIT, the NBC-owned station in Hartford, Connecticut..
 
In August 2011, Petty anchored several hours of the station’s Emmy award-winning 27-hour marathon coverage of Tropical Storm Irene, that left tens of thousands of Connecticut residents in the dark. She was also nominated for an Emmy for the weekly feature segment she produced, called “This Weekend.”

Petty and her husband, a Hinsdale native, are thrilled to be back in Chicago where their two young daughters are surrounded by family and friends.
