Reports: Bears Hire Sean Desai as New Defensive Coordinator

Reports: Bears hire from within to find new DC originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

One piece of the Bears coaching puzzle is reportedly set for 2021. According to multiple reports, Sean Desai will be the Bears new defensive coordinator.

Desai worked as the Bears’ safeties coach in 2019, and has been on the Bears’ staff since 2013 when he worked in a quality control capacity. During his time as a quality control assistant, he worked with the defensive backs, linebackers and special teams units.

Former Bears took to Twitter to praise the inside hire for the Bears:

Desai is the man - my rookie year he drew the cards for the scout defense i believe. He then ran scout meetings - worked his way up. Always the same guy too

By hiring from within, the Bears will hope to keep continuity on the defensive side of the ball, as opposed to revamping the unit with a new coach and system.

Ian Rapoport also reports that he believes Desai is the first person of Indian descent to become a coordinator in the NFL.
