Cubs place fourth player on COVID-19 related IL originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Cubs have placed infielder Matt Duffy on the COVID-19 related injured list, the team announced Tuesday, making him the fourth Cubs player to land on the IL since Monday.
Duffy is the first Cubs position player to go on the COVID-19 IL. The other three – Jason Adam, Dan Winkler and Brandon Workman – are all relief pitchers. The Cubs placed them on the COVID-19 related IL the same day the club announced bullpen coach Chris Young had tested positive for COVID-19.

Players on the COVID-19 related IL haven’t necessarily tested positive for the virus. Other reasons for placement on the COVID-19 IL include COVID-19 symptoms or confirmed exposure to the virus through contact tracing.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs selected infielder Ildemaro Vargas as a replacement player from the South Bend alternate training site.
