Teammate: Yu Darvish Feels Like Chicago Fans “Hate” Him

Most athletes say they tune out criticism from fans, but for Chicago Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish, it seems as though the hurler is feeling the heat.

In an interview with Cubs catcher Chris Gimenez, it was revealed that Darvish is having a tough time dealing with the critiques that have flowed forth on social media during his rough start to the season.

“I think he thinks that Chicago hates him for going on the DL a couple of times,” Gimenez told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I’ve tried to portray to him, ‘Listen, they’re going to love you when we get to October and we’re doing the things that we all want to do here, (and) you’re the main reason we’re doing it and we’re riding you all the way through it.’”

Darvish has posted a 1-3 record with a 4.95 ERA so far this season, and is currently on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right triceps. He also missed time this season with a flu bug.
