Chicago Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber underwent successful surgery on his injured left knee on Tuesday, the team announced.
A full ACL reconstruction was performed, and surgeons also repaired the damaged LCL that he suffered in a collision with Dexter Fowler in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this month.
According to Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago, the surgery was performed by Dr. Daniel Cooper, who is a team physician for the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cubs anticipate that Schwarber, who hit five postseason home runs for the club in 2015, will make a full recovery from the injury.
Schwarber was injured in an Apr. 7 game against the Diamondbacks at Phoenix’s Chase Field. On a fly ball to left center, Schwarber collided with Fowler near the warning track, sending both players sprawling to the turf.
Schwarber was ultimately carted off the field, and the next day the Cubs announced that he would miss the remainder of the season thanks to torn ACL and LCL ligaments and a severely sprained ankle.
