Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks was off to a great start at Saturday's game against the Giants when a line drive prematurely took him out of the game.
In the top of the fourth inning, Hendricks got two quick outs, but a hit off the bat of Angel Pagan struck him in the arm.
The hurler tried to stay in the game, throwing a few warm-up pitches off the mound following the impact, but ultimately he was forced to call it a night early.
After his departure, the Cubs announced that Hendricks was undergoing evaluation for a right forearm contusion, but X-rays came back negative for a fracture - good news for the team.
Before the injury, Hendricks proved himself at the plate, hitting a two-RBI single to make it a 3-0 game in the second inning.
Hendricks' replacement was Travis Wood, who struck out a batter to end the inning, then cranked a home run to give the Cubs a 5-2 lead in the game.
