2014 Elite Female Runners: Amy Hastings

Judging by her personal best time of 2:27:03, Amy Hastings is the U.S.'s best hope to make some noise at the 2014 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, but she'll likely need to run much faster than that to make a move on the likely lead pack.

This year's racing schedule hasn't gone according to plan for Hastings, a California native who attended Arizona State University.

She dropped out of April's Boston Marathon because her training was going according to plan, according to Runner's World.

Hastings' significant showing was a second place at the 2011 Los Angeles Marathon, her very first.

She just missed making the U.S. Olympic team in the marathon in 2012, but managed to qualify in the 10,000m. She finished in 11th place in London.

"She's made some great strides at the shorter distances and comes into this race with a chance to make some noise," race director Carey Pinkowski says. [[277263391, C]]
