Good Sports: Nationals Tweet Congratulatory Message to Cubs After Chicago Clinches

Less than 30 minutes after the Cubs were popping champagne bottles in the clubhouse at Nationals Park—the defeated home team tweeted a tenderhearted congratulations to their Chicago rivals.

“Congrats on a hard-fought series, @Cubs,” the tweet reads, coupled with a photo of Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper standing next to one another.

Rizzo and Harper shared a laugh in Game 1 of the National League Division Series last week that endeared fans on both sides. Rizzo, unsure of how many outs there were, threw the ball to second base to “double off” Harper.

Knowing that Rizzo had forgotten the number of outs, Harper had a big of fun at his expense, flashing three fingers over his chest as they passed each other on the field.

They both cracked up.

The Cubs had their own respectful tweet for the Nationals.

"Nothing but respect for Dusty Baker and the @Nationals on a hard-fought series," the tweet reads, featuring a GIF of coaches Joe Maddon and Dusty Baker shaking hands on the field.

The Cubs play the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium Saturday night at 7:08 p.m. CT for Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.
