Del Valle Offers New Education Plan

Chicago City Clerk and mayoral candidate Miguel del Valle on Wednesday announced a new plan to help more people get a four-year degree.

His "New Pathways to an Affordable Higher Education" initiative would push more students to use the city colleges system to earn college credits while in high school or before heading off to a four-year university.

"The end result will be more students from our Chicago Public Schools going on to college, more students getting their associate's degree, and more students getting their bachelor's degree, and more students being available to fill the needs of this ever-changing workforce," he said at a press event outside Malcolm X College.

He said that under his plan, students could save as much as $30,000 in tuition.

Del Valle conceded that there would be some cost associated with his plan but said "the price tag will not be high."
