David Oliver Relin, co-author of the 2006 best-selling book “Three Cups of Tea,” took his own life on Nov. 14, according to Oregon authorities. Peter Bellant, Deputy Multnomah County medical examiner, told The Associated Press that Relin died of a “blunt force head injury” in Corbett, Ore. The accuracy of “Three Cups of Tea,” which has sold more than four million copies, came under question by “60 Minutes” and author Jon Krakauer, who penned an e-book called “Three Cups of Deceit.” While Mortenson conceded some of the events chronicled in the book about his quest to build schools in Pakistan were compressed, Relin had not publicly addressed the allegations. The author’s family said that Relin “suffered from depression,” Relin’s agent told The New York Times.
