Winter Weather Advisory Issued as Freezing Rain, Snow Could Impact Monday Commute

Northern Illinois counties could see between three and six inches of snow, while southern areas will see freezing rain

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of the Chicagoland area as a mix of rain and snow is expected to fall in the evening hours on Monday.

DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, and Cook counties will all be under the advisory beginning at 6 p.m. Monday evening through 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. McHenry and Lake counties will be under an advisory beginning at 9 p.m. Monday and lasting until 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, McHenry and Lake counties could see anywhere from three to six inches of snow, and there could be some freezing rain mix in some areas.

Closer to Chicago, a mix of light freezing rain and snow is expected during the evening rush hour, and snowfall totals of one to three inches could also occur.

Motorists should expect slippery roads and limited visibility, according to the National Weather Service, and are advised to use caution on the roadways.
