People throughout Chicago are having to deal with a whole host of issues because of an extended period of freezing cold weather, and NBC 5’s Ash-Har Quraishi caught up with some of them.
Numerous watches and warnings are in effect for Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana as cold weather and snow continue to dominate the forecast.
A Wind Chill Warning has been issued for several counties in Illinois, including DeKalb and LaSalle counties. That warning, which forecasts wind chills of up to 35 degrees below zero on Sunday night, takes effect at 9 p.m. Sunday and lasts until noon on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind chill advisories have also been issued for virtually every county in northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana. DeKalb and LaSalle counties are impacted in Illinois, as are McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Kendall, Grundy, Will, and Kankakee counties.
In northwest Indiana, Lake, Porter, Newton, and Jasper counties are all under the advisory, which begins at 9 p.m. Sunday night and runs through noon Tuesday.
Finally, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Porter County until 8 p.m. Sunday night. Lake-effect snow could strike the area, bringing two inches of snow per hour according to forecast models.
