Clouds Spare Region from Oppressive Heat

There’s a chance for rain on Saturday, but the rest of the holiday weekend looks nice.

Chicago, you were saved by the clouds.

A thick cloud canopy over the region created by thunderstorms to the east of Chicago over Lake Michigan kept the predicted oppressive heat at bay.

By 4 p.m., heat advisories were cancelled for all of the NBC Chicago viewing area except for DeKalb and LaSalle counties.

Even if the clouds thin out, it's unlikely the heat will climb to anything unbearable given the late hour in the day.

Temperatures should hover in the 80s throughout the weekend.
