Wake Held for Slain Cook County Investigator

Cuauhtemoc Estrada shot while trying to stop two people from robbing his daughter

Cook County Sheriff’s police officer Cuauhtemoc Estrada was attending a Christmas party at the VFW Bellwood Memorial Post 5081, on the 200 block of 30th Avenue, in west suburban Bellwood when he tried to intervene in an attempted robbery and was fatally shot in the chest.

A wake is being held in suburban Chicago for an off-duty Cook County sheriff's investigator who was killed while trying to stop an armed robbery outside a family Christmas party in suburban Chicago.

Cuauhtemoc Estrada will be remembered Friday afternoon and evening during a wake at Russo's Chapel in Hillside.

A funeral for the 50-year-old is scheduled for Saturday at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago from 10-11 a.m. Estrada will be buried at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

The 50-year-old was shot in the chest last week while trying to stop two people from robbing his daughter and her boyfriend.

The flags across the state are have been lowered in memory of Estrada and will remain at half-staff until sunset Saturday.
