Teen Shot While Traveling in Stolen Vehicle on Chicago's Southwest Side

A city library branch remains closed after a car smashed into it overnight, and it may not reopen for several days. NBC 5’s Charlie Wojciechowski has the latest on what happened.

A 14-year-old boy was shot late Tuesday while traveling in a stolen vehicle in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The boy was a passenger in the stolen gray Scion at 11:07 p.m. in the 6000 block of South Whipple when someone in a black vehicle fired shots, striking him in the chest, according to Chicago Police.

The girl driving the Scion then crashed it into a building in the 6100 block of South Kedzie, police said. The boy was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

Police said the girl, whose exact age was not provided, was in custody early Wednesday.
