Concert Lineup Set for 2019 Taste of Chicago

India Arie will perform on the festival's final day

The Taste of Chicago brings some of the area’s finest eateries together for an outdoor extravaganza, and the festival is also going to bring in an eclectic mix of musicians for the annual event.

On Thursday, it was announced that Courtney Barnett will take the stage on the festival’s opening day in Grant Park on July 10. The Grammy Award-nominee has won numerous awards from the Australian Recording Industry Association, and she appeared on “Saturday Night Live” in 2016.

The following day will bring Bomba Estereo and Cultura Profética to the Petrillo Music Shell.  Bomba Estereo is a Colombian band that formed in 2005, and their most recent album “Ayo” featured tracks that emboded “cumbia” music, a Colombian style of music that combines folk elements and dance.

From Puerto Rico, Cultura Profética is a reggae band that has been rocking since 1996, and they also incorporate other musical styles as well, including salsa.

On July 12, De La Soul and Taylor Bennett will bring a hip hop-influenced set to Grant Park. Bennett, whose brother is rap icon Chance the Rapper, released his third studio album “Be Yourself” in 2018 and has also released three different mixtapes.

De La Soul, a Grammy Nominated rap trio, had a big 2017 as their album “And the Anonymous Nobody” was nominated for the Best Rap Album at the annual award show. They also have collaborated with several other groups, including Gorillaz.

Saturday at the festival will feature The Strumbellas and Lovelytheband. The Strumbellas’ latest album “Rattlesnake” was released in March, and debuted in the 56th spot on the Canadian charts. Their previous album, “Hope,” charted in the United States, and the group has performed at several big festivals, as well as performing on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”

The festival will wrap up on Sunday as India.Arie performs with Meshell Ndegeocello and Bilal. India Arie has been nominated for 21 Grammys and has taken home four prizes, and she has sold over 10 million records worldwide, according to her website.

The R&B singer released her album “Worthy” in February.
