Surveillance Cameras Capture “Stroller Gang” Stealing From Wicker Park Pizzeria

The incident happened Saturday in the 1200 block of North Damen Avenue in Wicker Park

A brazen crime is caught on camera in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The co-owner of Craft Pizza on Damen and Potomac says last Saturday a group of three young men and two young women with a baby in stroller came into the restaurant and stole money from a tip jar and a $700 bike. NBC5’s Dick Johnson reports.

The owners of a Chicago pizzeria say their surveillance cameras captured a group of thieves with a stroller carrying a baby stealing from their restaurant.

The incident happened Saturday in the 1200 block of North Damen Avenue in Wicker Park, police said.

Scott Toth, co-owner of the newly opened Craft Pizza, said the thieves, which he dubbed the "Wicker Park Stroller Gang," paid for their pizza before stealing from a tip jar and nabbing a bicycle.

The video shows one of two young women in the group taking a $10 bill from the tip jar and hiding it in a carry-out menu.

“She even asked if we were hiring,” said Toth.

Toth said another security camera in the rear of the building captured a man in the group climbing a 10-foot tall fence and stealing a $700 bicycle that belonged to cook Aaron Johnson.

“He just climbed it no problem,” Johnson said.

Meanwhile, employees believe one of the women was calling in a fake phone order as a distraction.

The woman never came to pick up her order, but employees said they called the number back shortly after realizing what had happened and the person on the other end hung up.

Police said they are investigating the theft.
