Springtime Roller Coaster: Wind, Cold, Rain and Snow

NBC 5’s Kalee Dionne has the latest weather forecast.

Although the Chicago area saw a brief burst of spring this past week, the wet and windy weather continues to make a comeback.

A mix of wind, rain and cold could kick off the weekend with a Lakeshore Flood Warning in some parts of the Chicago area.

A Wind Advisory for McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook and Kendall counties in Illinois has been issued until 7 p.m.

Saturday is expected to be mostly cloudy with rain showers and possibly, even a few isolated storms.

Temperature highs will rise into the upper-30s and low-40s and upper-40s to lower-50s on the far south of I-80 and southern portions of NW Indiana.

Overnight could see periods of moderate rain, at times becoming heavy, with an icy mix along the Illinois/Wisconsin border. Breezy cold temperatures will remain in the lower-30s.

With even cooler temps projected Sunday, light rain showers could mix in with sleet before turning into snow.

By Monday some light snow and flurries could take place, though ending early in the morning and not leaving more than an inch throughout.

As the week continues, temperatures will rise to the mid- and lower-50s and will most likely continue to stay in a cloudy and rainy state.

Mostly cloudy skies and breezy conditions will give way to mild temperatures, but only for parts of the Chicago area. Showers and storms are possible, especially heading into the late evening and overnight hours.

As the rain grows more widespread and temperatures dip even lower overnight, more of a wintry mix will be possible.
There won't be much in terms of rain totals heading into Friday evening, but how much you see depends on where you are.
By Saturday morning, rain totals increase significantly for much of the area.
By Saturday afternoon, some areas will have seen anywhere from a half-inch or more of rain.
Rain totals increase slightly from Saturday afternoon to Saturday evening.
But after more rain moves through, totals grow even high late Saturday.
By Sunday morning, totals will likely have topped more than an inch of rain.
And grown by another inch in just a matter of hours.
