An Illinois man filed a lawsuit against Nestle Purina Petcare Co and Wal-Mart Stores Inc Wednesday following the death of his dog.
Orland Park resident Dennis Adkins, 57, blames the March death of his Pomeranian, Cleo, on Nestle Purina's Waggin' Train Yam Good dog treats.
The dog had first eaten a treat on March 13, maintaining her usual diet, and died 13 days later due to kidney failure.
Adkins said the companies knew the treats posed a substantial risk of illness and even death, yet the products failed to be removed from stores, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Adkins noted that the package states the treats are "just wholesome goodness," and "it's what nature intended," but that surely was not the case.
