Second City Temporarily Relocating Offices to Tribune Tower

Second City will relocate its offices to the Tribune Tower after a fire damaged its facilities in August.

The theater will start a 14-month lease for two floors on Nov. 15, The Chicago Tribune reported. About 70 employees will work at the new location while their building in Old Town is renovated.

"We're making the best out of a tough situation," Second City CEO and co-owner Andrew Alexander told the Tribune. "We obviously prefer to be in our building, because it makes it more convenient to have everybody in one place.

Four firefighters and at least one other person suffered injuries from the thick black smoke that billowed near Wells Street and North Avenue on Aug. 26, the fire department has said. The fire started at a restaurant next door, but flames quickly traveled upwards through the restaurant's vents.

The theaters remained in good condition following the blaze, but carpet, wiring and lighting had to be replaced, Alexander has said.

The Second City theater launched the careers of many comedians and actors, including John Belushi, Tina Fey and Bill Murray.
