The highest sales tax in the country could be coming down -- just a little bit.
The Cook County Board on Tuesday voted to roll back the controversial sales tax by half a penny, taking it from 1.75% to 1.25%.
Commissioner John Daley told the Sun-Times that the Board has enough votes to override an expected veto from Board President Todd Stroger. Fourteen would be needed.
Commissioner Tony Peraica, one of two who was absent from the vote, called the rollback a "victory for taxpayers."
Stroger's Office said the county needs the revenue to meet its obligations.
