A 19-year-old delivery driver claims he was fired from his job when he said he needed surgery as part of his cancer treatment. Natalie Martinez reports.

A 19-year-old delivery driver diagnosed with cancer, who claims he was fired from his job for needing time off for surgery, has been offered his job back.

Rosebud Restaurants posted on Facebook that “Jon Larson’s job will be waiting for him when he completes his treatment.”

“Rosebud always strives to treat its employees and customers as family but, in this case, we did not live up to our own expectations,” the post read. “Like so many, we have been inspired by Jon Larson's personal strength and perseverance in his battle to beat cancer. We hope Mr. Larson makes a full and speedy recovery and returns to his job with Rosebud soon.”

Larson was diagnosed with cancer of the brain and spine. He has had several rounds of radiation and now needs back surgery, he said.

The surgery would require him to take time off of his job as a delivery driver at Naperville’s Rosebud Restaurant. Larson claims that when he told his boss about his upcoming procedure and said he could be back in six weeks, he was let go.

“[My manager] said, ‘No, by that time I’ll already have another driver hired. Just leave, I have to make some phone calls,” Larsen said. “I’m really disappointed and saddened by it. It’s not something I can help.”

Larson said he is not sure if he will accept the offer or not. He is expected to undergo surgery next month.
