Police: Wisconsin Father Arrested after Child Eats Candy with THC

Sheboygan police say a 28-year-old man was arrested after his 3-year-old child ate candy laced with THC, the active ingredient of cannabis.

Sheboygan Police Department said in a news release that officers responded to a hospital Sunday, and the child was breathing but minimally responsive. Police say tests showed THC was in the child's system.

The news release says the family had a birthday party Saturday for another child, and the father and some guests were using marijuana. According to police, he left candies with THC on a table within reach of children.

Police say that after finding the candies missing, the father and mother determined the 3-year-old had eaten them.

The Journal Sentinel reports police referred the father to prosecutors for a possible child neglect charge, and referred the mother on a possible charge of obstructing.
