Police Issue Warning After Brazen Thefts at Suburban Gas Stations

The thieves have robbed a gas station at gunpoint and stolen property from people's cars

Police have issued a warning for drivers in several suburban communities after a series of brazen thefts in which thieves are tricking unsuspecting drivers.

Authorities say that the suspects in the string of thefts have hit at least three gas stations in the south suburbs, including a gas station in Orland Park that was recently robbed at gunpoint.

Police released a surveillance video Sunday showing the suspects pulling up in a stolen Jeep and parking next to an unsuspecting woman at a gas pump. As the woman looked away, the thief opened her driver’s side door, stole her purse, and fled the scene before the woman noticed.

Authorities are encouraging the public to remain on the lookout not just for the suspects, but for their belongings while they’re filling up at the pump.

Orland Park police are continuing to investigate the crimes.
