It wasn't the dog. It was the fish.
The mother of an 18-month-old girl who had her finger bitten off initially suspected the family’s pet pitbull as the digit-chomping culprit.
But a police investigation determined the tank of hungry piranhas swimming in the Bay Colony house in unincorporated Maine Township were probably to blame according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The toddler’s father reportedly cut open the piranha and recovered the missing fingertip before bringing the girl to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, the Sun-Times reported.
Whether doctors were able to reattach the child’s fingertip remains unknown.
