Person Shot by Police on Chicago's South Side

Footage from the scene showed a heavy police presence in the area

A person was shot by officers in an incident on Chicago's South Side Monday night, police said.

Few details were released but Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the police-involved shooting took place near 79th and Yates.

"Offender shot by officers," Guglielmi tweeted. 

Further information on what happened wasn't immediately released.

Fire officials said a man was transported to University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. It was not clear if that man was the alleged "offender."

Footage from the scene showed a heavy police presence in the area. 

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it was also responding to the scene.
